As I have mentioned, I am making changes to my blog. Some of them are already visible. Some of them are not. So let me tell you about them.
The biggest change is the focus on this blog. It is no longer a smorgasbord of everything. I will be focusing on science fiction and fantasy titles. This does not mean that there will never be reviews for books outside these two categories, but they will be few and far between. I still have review pile that I am working through, and a lot of those books were accepted when I was a "read everything" blog. The reviews for those books will be posted everywhere I post, besides here (Amazon, Books-a-Million, Goodreads, Librarything and Shelfari). At the end of the month, I will post a list of all non-science fiction/fantasy books reviewed and where those reviews can be found.
Originally, when I started blogging, I was a book nerd who read everything I could get my hands on. I didn't count how many books I read, I passed along those books that touched me and allowed me to really get lost in the story. Then I started blogging, and talking about the books that I was reading. There wasn't any sort of order and it didn't matter. I didn't get stressed over which book to read next or when it was due. That didn't really change when I started getting review books from indie authors. I would ask for dates for when the review needed to be posted and the response was "whenever you can get to it". That only started changing when I started participating in blog tours, so that was a new change. But, my review book stack just got bigger and bigger. At one point, I considered not accepting review books at all. I was falling behind in series that I had started pre-blogging and I felt obligated to march quickly through the review books and I felt that I was cheating the authors. Would they rather me read quickly just to review it or to wait for a time that I can really sink into it? I decided it doesn't matter. This is my blog and my opinions, when you visit this site you are getting my thoughts. I have promised to be honest, so that means taking the time to get through the book. So until I am caught up, the only deadlines I will have will be books that are part of tours and books that come from individual authors. If I have not established a reading relationship with you (if I have not already reviewed one of your books) I will not be accepting any more requests for reviews, at least for now.
I love reading, talking books and discovering new adventures. But I am in school, so that is my priority. But I will go back to blogging like I did in the beginning, posting regularly, and reading regularly.
Because of personal goals, I realize that I will not be able to read as much or as quickly as I would like to. I have set reading goals and will be participating in a few challenges. I am still here and I will always be working on this blog and growing my following. But, it will be done at a turtle's pace. I'm good with that. I may lose people. I'm good with that. I may not get to get the latest print arc for the next best thing. I'm good with that. If you're not, than I'm sorry and wish you the best. If you are, stay with me and see where this year takes us.
Always Shine,
Starr K
