Working with her maker, Michael, and the remaining members of the warring Vampire Council, Liz must defeat the darkness inside her, and learn to become more than a killer vampire. She must become a vampire killer.

                I have nothing but good things to say about this book. Yes, it took me a minute to get into the story but that had everything to do with outside noise and not this book. If I was going to complain about anything in this book, it would be that I knew enough about the bad guys to know that they were the bad guys. They were important to the story in the sense that they were the reason everything was happening (if that makes sense) but I didn’t care about them. I did care about Liz and Michael and their band of misfits.

                I think this is the first book that I’ve read that I wasn’t really clear who the hero was going to be. I had read the blurb and knew what the story was about. But ignoring what I was supposed to know and just experiencing the book as I read, there were opportunities for other people to step up to the plate and fill that role.  Is it bad to not know who the hero of the story is? Only if there aren’t any characters that you care about.  And in Birthright, there were plenty of characters to grow attached to.

                I have to say that I am not always a fan of romances that are so unexpected that they pound you in the face like a baseball out of left field. But I loved the dynamic between Michael and Liz. It was unexpected and there was definitely some interesting chemistry at work, but they did not rush into something, their feelings were believable and sweetly awesome! I am definitely looking forward to the digging into the next book.  

Recommendation? Definitely check out Dark Gifts: Birthright, you will not be disappointed!
